Surgical extractions address impacted (ingrown) teeth or those with damaged crowns near the gum line. For this procedure, we’ll make a small incision on the gums and remove a small amount of the alveolar bone to access the tooth. In many cases, Dr. Formoli breaks the tooth into fragments for easier removal. The final step is to clean and stitch the wound to begin recovery.Â

What should I expect after tooth removal?
We don’t remove your tooth and send you away. Our team will give you post-op instructions to ensure a smooth recovery. Immediately after treatment, you’ll experience soreness and pain after the anesthesia wears off. We’ll prescribe medications to manage your pain. Our team will also give you antibiotics to prevent infections.Â
Other aftercare instructions include.
- Take some days off from your work and exercise and rest to allow the body to heal
- Use an ice pack to manage swelling and pain
- Stick to a soft diet for the first few days
- Observe good oral hygiene to prevent infections
- Call your dentist if you experience prolonged pain or swelling
