What is treatment with Invisalign like?
Digital impressions will first be taken of your teeth. Dr. Formoli will send the details of your teeth to the Invisalign lab along with a written report of your oral examination and a prescription. Using your teeth impression the lab will make a mold of your teeth so that custom-made aligners can be prepared to fit you perfectly.
The images and mold of your teeth will also be used to make a computerized model of your teeth. A special software will use the computer model to predict the course of your Invisalign treatment. You will be sent a copy of this treatment plan. Let Dr. Formoli know if you have any questions or concerns regarding your treatment plan. Modifications can be made to the plan, if required, before the first set of aligners are prepared.
Once your Invisalign aligner is ready, the clear tray will be fitted for you by Dr. Formoli. The aligners are made of very thin plastic and will feel comfortable once you get used to them. Invisalign aligners can be removed while eating and when brushing your teeth. You will be advised to wear the aligners for at least 20 to 22 hours per day.
After the first treatment cycle is complete, about a couple of weeks, you will be called in for another visit. During this period the aligners will have made small shifts in your teeth to align them more evenly. The old aligner will need to be replaced with a new one to fit the new position of your teeth and to make further corrections. The process is repeated every two to three weeks or so and total treatment time could last up to a year or more, depending on the type of case. The results of the treatment, however, can start showing after the first three months. At the end of your course of treatment, you will need to wear a retainer for some time to ensure that your teeth set in their new position.
What is Invisalign?
An almost invisible, clear aligner that can straighten teeth without the unsightly look of conventional braces. Adults who want to get that perfect smile discreetly, comfortably, and efficiently can choose these orthodontic appliances.
What are some of the conditions that Invisalign can treat?
Crossbite gaps between teeth, crowding of teeth, overbite, underbite, and open bite are a few of these conditions.
For how long do I have to wear the aligner trays for?
At least 20 to 22 hours per day. You will wear the first set for a few weeks and move on to the next set. You will wear several sets of aligners that reflect the gradual change in your teeth. The full treatment may last up to one year.
Do I have to wear retainers as part of my Invisalign treatment?
Yes. You will need to wear retainers for some time after treatment to ensure that your teeth set in their new position.

Am I a good candidate for Invisalign?
All healthy adults can opt for Invisalign treatment after consulting with their orthodontist. Invisalign is not recommended for children whose jaws have not fully developed, conventional braces are recommended in this case. Invisalign might not be recommended for you if the extent of unevenness in your teeth is beyond the scope of treatment.
Overcrowding towards the back of the jaw is not easily corrected with Invisalign aligners, and it might need a different form of treatment. There are no known risks or side effects to Invisalign, but you should consult your dentist if you feel any pain or discomfort during the treatment. If you are suffering from other dental conditions, these might need to be addressed before treatment with Invisalign.
