Welcome to my practice, I'm Dr. Formoli.
Hi, I’m Dr. Formoli. Welcome to my practice. We are in Sacramento, right in Arden Park, the heart of the city.
Early Detection Saves Lives
Hello, I’m Dr. Formoli here at Arden Park Dental Care. I’d like to talk about something extremely important today. Do you know oral cancer is linked to the (HPV) Human papillomavirus, which is known to be asymptomatic? This is a ViziLite PRO. It shines fluorescent light in your mouth, which allows us to see five layers deep into the tissue that we cannot see with bare eyes or X-ray. Abnormal cells show us dark or maroon color. Normal cells show us fluorescent green. What is the answer to oral cancer? First awareness, second getting screened, third, using the latest technology means early detection. Early detection saves lives. Please schedule your next screening on your next visit.
See how we are using the Vector Vortex to keep our staff and patients safe.
What we’re demonstrating here today is the Vector Vortex extra oral suction. aerosols big topic today in dentistry with this pandemic going on. Patients want to be protected, dentists want to be protected, your staff wants to be protected, hygienists using ultrasonic scalars they’re scared, and guess what this will give them the peace of mind they need. This is a solution you can see them in the video you turn this thing on and those aerosols are going that way into this machine. It’s great filtration, you can take off the back you can change the filters as needed there’s an on/off switch and a suction strength knob. So, crank it up and get drilling very movable, around up down wherever you want it you get a position where you want it you know tighten it up, and there you go you’re good to go.
Why Do Some Patients Need A Bone Graft
Hi, I’m Dr. Shahnaz Formoli. I’m here today to answer one of the most common questions I’m asked throughout the day in my dental implant practice. The question is how I need a bone graft to get a dental implant. Let’s get into it. So really to understand why someone would need a bone graft, we first have to understand how a dental implant works. A dental implant is a titanium metal post that the dentist would place into a jawbone and then use it as an anchor. Three to four months later we will place an artificial tooth also known as a crown on top of that anchor. When a dentist places an implant the most important thing is that the implant completely is stable inside the bone. we need that stability so we can use it as an anchor for the crown in a few months. The strength and stability of an implant are very important to us. If a patient doesn’t have the required amount of bone, then we do a bone graft. Many different ways exist to do a bone graft. In many different, bone graft materials are available for the dentist. Typically a bone graft will be done at the time of tooth extraction. We do this to preserve the socket and regrow the bone after placing the bone on the side. We will use a resorbable or non-resorbable membrane to cover the site. From this point, usually, it takes four to six months for the bone graft to turn into a mature bone that can support our implants. It is very important that you have a dentist who has done lots of implants in lots of bone grafts. If a patient needs a bone graft and a dentist places an implant in a site that does not have enough bone, implant failure is likely. This would require the removal of an implant. When an implant is removed, it is a very traumatic procedure for the bone further compromising the sight. Thank you very much for listening. I’m Dr. Formoli. If you have any questions, feel free to message or comment.
Dont Get An Implant Without A 3D CT Scan
Hi everyone, I’m Dr. Formoli with Arden Park Dental Care. I want to talk about something that the majority of dental implant patients would never really consider. And that’s the type of technology your dental practice has to offer. As a dentist, I think it is important for us to acknowledge that we are capable of human error, and we take precautions to proactively mitigate risk on behalf of our patients. And that takes us to this thing. This is a 3D CT scan. every dentist who plays implants should have one. There are many professionals out there who believe using a traditional x-ray is sufficient and I agree with it in the sense that it’s doable but is not the best approach. The problem with traditional X-rays is that they only offer a two-dimensional view for the dentist to look at. And those images don’t allow you to get a true layout of the bone structure. An x-ray is only as good as the dentist’s capability to read it correctly. With a 3D CT scan let me show you an example of an old patient scan. It allows us to see the overall bone structure of the patient. We can see the patient’s bone from different angles and through this deeper level of information we can most precisely plan our surgery. So, this allows your dentist to lower the risk of human error. Also, these CT scans even produce a 3D-printed surgical guide so we can place an implant at the perfect angle and depth. This is something we do offer in our office and is common among other practices that have these types of scans. So, remember if you’re thinking about getting a dental implant make sure your provider uses a 3D CT scan. Don’t go with the traditional X-rays. I hope this video helped you and gives you some insights that you may not have considered before. Have a great day. I’m Dr. Formoli with Arden Park Dental Care.
